Interview with MªJosé Murillas responsible for Fhios Humans Resources
We have gone into MªJosé Murillas‘ office, responsible of Human Resources in Fhios. Funny as always, she explained us her vision of this department, and the various actions being undertaken in the company to retain and attract talent.
1. In your experience over these 10 years working in HR, what is your vision of the HR Department of a company? What values should have? And how you should operate?
The main function of the HR department is to be a two-way communication between management and workers, therefore making a very important role of mediator. That is why the discretion of the person in charge, and the involvement with the company are fundamental values to properly perform their duties. In addition, it has to be a flexible and close department where it can operate with agility within preset procedures, in order to retain the talent. You can not apply a very strict policy with employees if you are looking for trust and involvement.
2. What kind of profiles are the most demanded or requested in the technology sector?
The most searched profiles are analysts, programmers and system and network administrators, as well as experts in databases. Especially we look for very specialized profiles in any particular technology.
The current problem is that there is a high demand and short supply, so it is difficult to find this kind of specialized profiles. In a few years there has been a significant change in the recruitment process. We were used to that the candidate came to the company looking for work. Now, especially in this sector, are companies that have to go out and find the candidate to contact him. The HR department has to adapt to new technologies and use different tools or job portals to spread offers.

3. Nowadays, there are a myriad of tools and social media networks to raise awareness of corporate values, in order to recruit candidates. Do you think that the integration of social networks in a company, both internal and external use is essential?
The RRSS have a very important role in our lives, so must also have it in the workplace. But not only internally, also externally to show the culture and philosophy of the company to the audience. It is important to work with the Communication Department to show what is the company doing, both at the corporate level as in the human aspects. Internally we also use tools that allow us to speed up our day-to-day and avoid interruptions between us.
4. When in a selection process you have two candidates with a similar curriculum to suit the job, what is it that makes you decide between one candidate or another?
For me one of the key is knowing what the candidate is looking for, and see if that fits into what the company can offer. It is important to match the needs of the person with the team, and assess who will fit best. In Fhios often there is people of the team involved in the interview to establish a conversation, and create feedback between interviewee and worker. That’s why the personal interview is essential to know the candidate. We should not be guided by appearances. It is important, as far as possible, to focus on the values of the individual.
5. For you, as Head of Humen Resources of Fhios, is just as important to attract and retain talent. What is the best method to retain talent in the company?
It is essential to offer things that differentiate you from the competition. And I do not mean only the salary aspect, but other key issues that candidates are assessed positively as good working environment, family reconciliation, hear the proposals of workers, etc.
I think the most important thing is to try to create a flexible schedule that fits the needs of each person, and create a training strategy to retain talent in the company, and continue growing in knowledge.
At the end of the day, in the workplace it is where we spend most of the time so we should try to take special care of the emotional side of people.

6. What kind of HR policies are being implemented in Fhios? What projects or challenges do you currently have?
As I said, it is very important to create a good working environment for people to come excited and motivated to work. We try to implement policies that differ from other companies, especially in the human part. We have an annual budget for the training of each department, and often are the workers who decide what they wanna learn new. We also do fun activities from the party committee in order to interact with peers in a different environment.
When I started working in Fhios we had many challenges. The most important was to create proximity with the workers, in orther to be aware of the reality of people and implement appropriate policies. Now we also create congratulations for birthdays, introduce new workers to the team, and do sports tournaments, among other things.
